The Atomic Spawn

THE ATOMIC SPAWN is a modern monster movie with an old-school heart. The short film features meticulous stop-motion animation inspired by Willis O’Brien and Ray Harryhausen, in classic movies such as King Kong and Clash of the Titans. With its adorable creature designs and dark comedy, this is a fun nostalgic film that audiences of all ages can enjoy!

MY ROLES: director, writer, animator

THE ATOMIC SPAWN was made possible with special thanks to the Skull Valley Band of Goshutes, who allowed us access to the unique exterior location on an abandoned missile test site. A huge thanks also to our amazing crew, a team of dedicated filmmaking professionals who donated their time and energy to make this project happen.

With funding from the Utah Film Commission’s Next Level Grant, we built the three unique monster puppets and commissioned a stylish sound design. I learned how to animate using traditional stop-motion techniques to achieve the visual effects shots.

THE ATOMIC SPAWN premiered at the Woods Hole Film Festival, and the film went on to have a successful festival run where it was selected at Oscar-qualifying lineups like the Austin Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival. THE ATOMIC SPAWN is now available online through Omeleto.

I’m incredibly proud of leading this film and the opportunity to work with such a talented team of filmmakers!
