Hello

My name is Arthur Veenema. I’m a filmmaker, photographer, and animator living in Salt Lake City, UT where I specialize in video production, motion graphics, photography, and science communication.

I work at the Genetic Science Learning Center with the University of Utah. The GSLC is an amazing resource used in classrooms around the world. We also collaborate with the All of Us Research Program and a wide variety of organizations to communicate educational topics.

I operate my own video business, Veenema Media LLC, for freelance projects.

I also love sci-fi and anything with giant monsters. My short film, The Atomic Spawn, was an official selection at the Austin Film Festival, then featured at G-Fest in Chicago, and is now distributed online by Omeleto where you can watch it for free. It’s a fun blend of stop-motion monster effects and 1950s period-piece sets. The film was a recipient of the Utah Film Commission’s Next Level Grant. If you dig it, leave a review on Letterboxd and IMDb.

I was also the producer and co-host of the film history podcast, A Century in Cinema. If you enjoy old classics, you’ll enjoy learning about them with Andrew Slaughter and I. Listen on Apple Podcasts and leave a review. We’ve wrapped the show up, but you can still join our Patreon for bonus episodes.

Previously, I’ve been a staff writer and producer at Vavani Productions where I wrote a series of screenplays and pitches. While at Vavani, I helped on the documentary Quiet Heroes, which went on to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and won an Emmy.

I worked on the set of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone as a personal assistant to the directors. I’ve also worked as a PA on HBO’s Mosaic and some other jobs in the film industry.

For school, I graduated with a BA in Film & Media Arts from the University of Utah, and I also received an Honors Degree and a Business Minor.

I currently live in Salt Lake City. I have a cat named Kiki, and I use to own a lot of plants but Kiki killed all of them. If you’d like to get in touch, I’d look forward to hearing from you, and you can reach me through the contact page on this site.
